A Vodafone subscriber whose SIM card has unfortunately been deactivated over failure to register it has descended heavily on Ursula Owusu, the Minister of Communications and Digitalization.
On Thursday, June 1, 2023, about 9 million SIM cards were blocked in accordance with a directive issued by the Ministry of Communications and the National Communications Authority (NCA). The deactivation of SIM cards affected subscribers who failed to register their cards.
According to the directive, if your SIM card is deactivated, you lose access to your mobile money wallet and the money in it.
In a recent development to the story, a woman who has become a victim of this directive has expressed her annoyance and wrath towards Ursula Owusu for preventing them from accessing their mobile money wallet.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with UTV monitored by 1Family Radio, the angry subscriber disclosed that she is a single parent and that she needs the money in her wallet to keep her business running.
She continued that the Ghana card, which is the only document needed for the registration of the SIM cards, has not been given to her after three years of registration.
“They deactivated my Vodafone SIM card yesterday. I came here this morning around 6 a.m. and was told there was an issue with the network, so I decided to go inside. When I got there, they said Ursula Owusu had instructed that anybody who didn’t have the Ghana card for the re-registration should be blocked.
“But my child registered for the Ghana card, and she has not received it after three years,’’ she added.
“Now that they have blocked my SIM card, how is she going to get access to the phone? I have money on my phone too, so how am I going to get my money? She quizzed
“They should withdraw my money for me because I learned that when your SIM card is blocked, you lose access to your mobile money wallet.’’
“I am pleading with them because I am a single parent catering for my children; they should withdraw my money for me and give the SIM card to Ursula Owusu to chew. Yes, they should give me my money and go and give the SIM card to Ursula Owusu to chew,’’ she added.
