The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opened the nominations for its presidential primary election ahead of the upcoming general elections in 2024.
In a statement released by the party, it was hinted that the timelines for holding the party’s presidential primaries were approved at a meeting held by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP on April 3, 2023.
According to the statement sighted by 1Family Radio, the nominations are open from Friday, May 26, 2023, to Saturday, June 24, 2023. In the event of any special Electoral College elections, they will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
“Pursuant to the National Council timelines, the party hereby announces the opening of nominations for the presidential primary elections. Nominations forms shall be obtained from the office of the General Secretary at the Party Headquarters, Asylum Down, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Monday to Friday),’’ the statement disclosed.
“Consequently, an aspiring presidential candidate shall obtain the nomination forms after the payment of a non-refundable nomination fee of fifty thousand Ghana Cedis (GH 50, 000.00) only, through a bankers’ draft issued to the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters, Accra as payee.’’
“The party is determined to hold free, transparent, and peaceful presidential primary elections and urges all stakeholders to help make this a reality,’’ the party added.
