Former President and the current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has made a mockery of President Akuffo-Addo’s ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ mantra.
One of the objectives of President Akuffo-Addo when he was elected president of Ghana was to build a ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’. He promised to do everything within his power to prevent Ghana from applying for a loan from the IMF.
In spite of this pledge by the current president, the nation recently begged the IMF for a bailout due to our economic problems.
In reaction to this, Mahama has stated that our return to the IMF has turned the president’s agenda into a buttload of jokes.
He made this assertion when he was giving his speech as the keynote speaker at the 7th Ghana CEOs Summit, monitored by 1Family Radio.
“Indeed, our return to the IMF with a cup in hand has made our Ghana Beyond Aid policy the butt of jokes amongst many commentators in the world.”
“It will take a resolute and committed political will to determine our own economy,” he indicated.
In order to implement the strategy, Mahama said, we would need to be able to set our own economic priorities that put our citizens’ welfare first and foster an atmosphere that promotes sustainable growth and development.
