Professor John Gatsi, a Ghanaian economist and lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has projected that some policies by the NPP government will be subjected to review as part of the conditionalities of the IMF.
Ghana was granted a $3 billion credit facility by the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
According to Prof. Gatsi, some programs and policies by the government will be reviewed to make them more targeted and accessible to all Ghanaians.
He claims that one of these policies to undergo a review is the Free SHS policy implemented by the president some years ago.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, monitored by 1Family Radio, the professor noted that the review of these programs is intended to make them more targeted and accessible.
“As a matter of fact, they have instructed on what to do about the free SHS. They must review it and make it meet the needs of Ghanaians. There will be a review of the program to make it more targeted and accessible to all Ghanaians,’’ he noted.
The professor proceeded by saying that the Livelihood and Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program is also likely to be reviewed.
‘’Other insurances for the vulnerable in the community, like LEAP and others, will be reviewed to make them more coherent and accessible to people who qualify to access them,’’ he said.
