Ghanaian versatile highlife artiste, Kwabena Kwabena has opened up on why he longer goes to church.
He stated that the attitude of some Christians and gospel musicians has pushed him away from the church.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM monitored by 1Family Radio, he stated that gospel artistes are focusing too much on material things rather than spreading the good news of Christ.
“Money is just a byproduct of creativity. It’s normal to focus on money and material things because of the world we live in, but we are losing our creativity because we have focused too much on money,’’ he said.
Explaining why he no longer feels comfortable in the church, he noted that although he writes gospel songs, the character of some gospel artistes and Christians saddens him.
“Recently, gospel musicians have started doing certain things which are very disheartening. I write gospel songs and I know very well how gospel music is supposed to be. It saddens my heart to see that gospel musicians are now touring on worldly things,’’ Kwabena noted.
He narrated how he met two gospel artistes fighting over hype and popularity. “Few weeks ago, I met two gentlemen and it looked as if they were fighting. After making inquiries, I realized that there is going to a launch and these two gentlemen, one of whom I really love his songs wanted some sort of hype.’’
“Just recently, the other guy had a program and in order to hype the occasion, a lady was hired to shake her buttocks just to invite people into the church. I really have a problem with how people now treat God,’’ the musician said.
Kwabena Kwabena continued that he has no problem with the shaking of the buttocks but the location it takes place. “The bible even says that there is time and season for everything. There is nothing wrong with shaking your buttocks but there are places meant for the shaking of buttocks. If you want to shake your buttocks, go to the club and pubs and do it.’’
The ‘Bue Kwan’ hitmaker advised women to be mindful of the type of dresses they wear to church. “Let me tell you this, even if you have tight dresses please don’t wear them church. There are places you can wear them to but not in the house of God.’’
“It is a shame that no pastor has spoken about this issue up till now. What have we turned the house of God into? Frankly speaking, this justifies why I no longer feel like going to church again,’’ he added.
