The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that the Akuffo-Addo led administration has reduced the presidency to a criminal mafia den.
Their comments were in reaction to the current issues around the presidency including the Aljazeera’s gold mafia investigation and the report by the former Minister of Environment, Frimpong-Boateng on illegal mining in the country.
According to the party, the president has chosen to remain silent on these issues despite the call by Ghanaians for an answer and explanation.
“The presidency has kept a deafening silence on this matter in the wake of the damning revelations contained in the Al Jazeera documentary,” the party noted.
Speaking at a press conference monitored by 1Family Radio, the current National Communications Officer for the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi noted that the country’s forest reserves have never been subjected to such obscene rape and wanton destruction as we have experienced under the Akuffo-Addo government.
Speaking of the recent galamsey report by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng Sammy said, “Friends from the media, you would recall, that President Akufo-Addo place a moratorium on April 1, 2017, suspending artisanal and small-scale mining in the country for a combined period of one year, three months.’’
“Strangely however, Frimpong Boateng’s galamsey report tells us that in 2018, this same Akuffo-Addo government acting through the Forestry Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, somehow contrived to give out all forest reserves in Ghana for mining activities,’’ he read.
“Ghanaians have not forgotten about the Number #12 documentary by ace Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in which former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwasi Nyantakyi was nabbed in similar fashion negotiating kickbacks from supposed investors for President Akuffo-Addo and other government officials,’’ Sammy noted.
He continued; “the question every objective Ghanaian should be asking, is how come the name of the President and his Vice keep popping up in such shady deals and corruption scandals? Why always them? It could neither be mere speculation nor influence peddling any longer.’’
‘’Never in the history of our country has the Presidency been reduced to a criminal Mafia as we are witnessing today as has become standard practice under the Akuffo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government,’’ he stated.
“This trend that has now received such unenviable global publicity, must worry well-meaning Ghanaian,’’ Sammy added.
