Smart Takyi Nixon, a Ghanaian media consultant and a professional MC speaker has disclosed that although children are gift from God, they do not validate a marriage as some section of Ghanaians think.
In our part of the world, women are expected to conceive after few years of marriage to prove their fertility. This tends to put pressure on the couples and some marriages have been destroyed because of this.
However, Takyi Nixon believes that the validation of a marriage should not be based solely on children because a marriage without a child is still a marriage.
Speaking in an interview on GhanaWeb’s cuddles and moans monitored by 1Family Radio, Smart urged couples having difficulties in child bearing to disregard any negative comment they receive and also live the best of their lives.
He stated that here in Africa, after some years of marriage and there is no child, some family members start passing ill comments about your childlessness. “It’s already a year you guys got married, what’s next,’’ he noted.
Smart furthered that a marriage is still a marriage with or without a child and the authentication of a marriage is not about the number of children in the marriage.
“One of the delightful things I have heard about marriage is that even without a child, marriage is still a marriage. Couples who are about to marry should keep in mind that childlessness doesn’t annul a marriage,’’ he stated.
According to him, some Ghanaians do not plan prior child bearing because they have this notion that God will take care of the child. But this is not entirely true and thus the need to plan before child bearing.
