Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene has called on the government to be candid with Ghanaians about the current state of the economy.
He noted that the government needs to cut down on expenditure as a way of addressing the current economic mess.
Speaking at the 56th congregation at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) monitored by 1Family Radio, the Asantehene indicated that the government has resorted to the DDEP to restore macroeconomic stability because our debt level has become unsustainable.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu furthered that the government has failed to consult the public before initiating the program and this has created a lot of misconceptions about the program.
“unfortunately, it seems public consultation did not take place before the commencement of the program. The country is in a tense mood even though the government has announced the finalization of the program,’’ he noted.
He urged the government to be more transparent with the general public about the true state of the nation’s affair. The paramount chief stated, “I want to entreat the government to be more transparent and candid in these dire times in order to gain the trust and confidence of Ghanaians.’’
“The government should be more considerate and reach out to people who are even in opposition because the interest of the country is paramount,’’ he added.
“We are all seeing the difficult times the country is in now therefore, we must work together to prevent the economy from crashing,’’ Otumfuo advised.
