The defamation suit filed by Anas in 2018 against the Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong has been dismissed by the Accra High Court on March 15, 2023.
Anas Aremeyaw, an investigative journalist in 2018 sued Kennedy Agyapong for allegedly defaming him after Kennedy produced a documentary tilted “Who Watches the Watchman’’. The former demanded for GH¢25 million as a compensation for the defamatory caused by the MP.
However, the Accra High Court presided by Justice Eric Baah ruled that the claims by Anas is baseless and for this reason the case was dismissed.
A snippet of the ruling monitored by 1Family Radio indicated that Anas was unable to prove that Kennedy Agyapong defamed him in his documentary. According to the court, the documentary has rather unveiled the shady means by which Anas gets his information.
The court disclosed that Anas is into investigative terrorism and not investigative journalism and that gives the lawmaker the right to tag him as a corrupt journalist and also an extortionist.
“I find the claims by the plaintiff meritless and they are hereby dismissed,’’ the judge ruled.
