Some Ghanaian medical students studying in Cuba on a scholarship of the government of Ghana have disclosed that they are living in misery because they have not received their stipends.
Speaking in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM monitored by 1Family Radio, these students indicated that they have not received their stipends for more than seven months now.
They lamented that they are living in hell because they are now depending on their friends for survival. However, they cannot always ask their friends from other countries for help.
The spokesperson for the students indicated that nothing has been done about this situation although the Ghana embassy has been promising them that they are putting measures in place to tackle the issue for the past eight months. According to the students, they are supposed to receive $250 per month per their agreement with the Scholarship Secretariat.
Some of these students revealed that in order to survive, they have to resort to other means including going out with people from rich homes. One of the students hinted that he is being supported by his girlfriend who comes from a rich home.
Others mentioned that their academics have been jeopardized because they have to live in hideouts.
