Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, the Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore in the Ashanti region has disclosed that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is likely to win the flagbearership of the NPP.

According to him, almost all the MPs from the Ashanti region and majority of the NPP MPs are rallying behind Bawumia. He added that Bawumia has already won the primaries elections because looking at his other contenders, he is more competent and skilled than them.

He furthered that the Ashanti region MPs have decided to elect Bawumia as the flagbearer of the NPP. The lawmaker asserted that their decision is based on desires of the grassroots.

Dr. Nana Ayew stated the Ashanti region determines who becomes the president and almost all the MPs from the region are rooting for Bawumia therefore, he is likely to become the next president of Ghana.

The lawmaker indicated that looking at history, anybody that has become the president was able to win the support of the Ashanti region. He cited names like Kuffour, Adu Boahen and the current President Akuffo-Addo to support his claims that all these people became the president with the support from the Ashanti region.

He concluded that Bawumia has already won both the primaries and presidential elections because out of the 128 MPs in parliament, about 108 are rooting for the vice president.
