Donna Elikplim Agbeshie, a National Service Personnel and a graduate of KNUST has been honored by the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia for her commitment to the Weija Leprosarium.
As part of the activities to commemorate the World leprosy Day, Donna was awarded a citation by the vice President for her good work at the Weija Leprosarium where she did her national service. She was recommended by Rev. Andrew Campbell, the president of the Lepers Aid Ghana.
Donna was recommended for regularly checking up on the patients in their various wards and also helping to cater for the lepers.
Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme also praised Donna. According to him most people don’t want to come into contact with lepers but Donna accepted to work at the leprosarium and showed the lepers love and compassion.
Based on her show of compassion to the lepers, the Vice President urged Ghanaians to desist from the habit of discriminating against lepers. He encouraged them to show compassion towards people with leprosy.
He added that lepers are not ignorant so when they are given the opportunity, they will be able to showcase their talents.
