A survey conducted by Outcomes International and the Centre for Sustainable African Development Inititives (C -SADI) reveals that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is likely to become the next flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party.
The outcome of the survey shows that the most accepted candidate of the flagbearer position is the vice president across the sixteen regions of the country. The survey was done in 197,000 executives polling stations of the NPP.
The survey showed that Dr. Bawumia is the leading candidates in all the sixteen regions with Alan Kyerematen being the second most preferred candidate followed by Kennedy Agyapong.
Although some executives polling stations of the NPP are yet to decide on whom to elect as the flagbearer, the surveyors believe that the outcomes from these polling stations will not change the results.
Other factors that could affect the outcome of presidential candidate elections of the NPP were taken into consideration. These factors include religion and ethnic background.
With the help of the Computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI), 5641 people from the executives polling stations were interviewed. The outcome shows that fifty-four percent of the voters are Akan while forty-six percent are not Akan.With regards to religion, 78% are Christians with 20.6% being Muslims.
