Mark Assibey-Yeboah, a former chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament and the Member of Parliament for the New Juaben South Constituency has declared that the Finance Minister will not be expelled by the president.
Speaking in an interview on Adom TV, monitored by 1Family Radio, the lawmaker stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo will not dismiss Ken Ofori- Atta because he embodies the president.
Dr. Assibey said the president does not believe that Ken Ofori- Atta has mismanaged the economy of the country as some parliamentarians and citizens think. He also stated that the Finance Minister will not step down because he only implements the decisions taken by the president and his cabinet.
He furthered quizzed why will Ofori-Atta resign when the president thinks he is doing a remarkable a job. The president does not also intend to dismiss him because during the discussion with some NPP MPs to fire Ofori-Atta, the president only replied that he should be allowed to complete the negotiations with the IMF before such decision is considered.
Dr. Assibey stated that the finance minister represents the president. He added that he overheard some MPs discussing that the minister should be fired because he didn’t adhere to their advice to reduce the E-levy to 1.5%. How can he do that when the president and his cabinet make the budget for him to implement.
He concluded that Ken Ofori-Atta will not resign because there is no basis for his resignation when the president thinks he is doing an excellent job.
